Star Wars X-Wing - Character and Ship Guide - HWK-290

The first of X-Wing's ships that are not part of movie canon the HWK-290 or 'Moldy Crow' as it's more commonly known was first seen in the excellent Dark Forces released way back in the days of 2D sprite shooters on the PC.  Piloted by Jan Ors and Kyle Katarn both characters have gone on to become firm fan favourites over the years.  What's most promising here though is with this addition we can see the possibility of other expanded universe ships being added in the yet to be revealed Wave 4.

Faction: Rebel Alliance/Neutral
Ship: HWK-290 Light Freighter
Statistics ÷
Primary Weapon Value: 1
Agility: 2
Hull: 4
Shields: 1

Developed prior to the battle of Naboo the HWK or Hawk series was built by the Corellian engineering company as a ship for wealthy more upmarket clients who wanted a vessel more in keeping with their status and prefer not to use the YT series of transports.  Dubbed a luxury merchant vessel it was designed to resemble a raptor and used speed and manueverability to escape any hostile situations.  The series was ultimately discontinued during the Clone wars but the ships are still available across the galaxy.  Kyle Katarn bought his HWK-290 and heavily modified it with better shielding added weapons and improved the hyperdrive unit.

All HWK-290's are capable of performing the (Focus) and (Target Lock) abilities.

HWK-290's aren't going to win any battles with their firepower that's for sure but they do work best as support vessels for rebel squads.  Being relatively cheap they add great abilities to a squad like Roark's ability to boost any ships skill to 12 for that turn allowing you the chance for that much needed shot or action.  Jan is probably the best of the 290 pilots being able to add attack die to any friendly ships attack at the cost of gaining a stress token.  Kyle works best with the Moldy Crow title as it allows him to store focus tokens between rounds and then give them out to allies.  One recommendation though is that you use blaster turret to give your HWK a chance to take out weakened targets.
